CompEx Foundation

This is a one day course for non-electrical/mechanical personnel working in Hazardous Environments

Compex Foundation Unit Ex'F

European Directives and the corresponding National Regulations recognise that the Design and operation of plants handling 'Dangerous' materials and the specification, installation and repair of explosion protected equipment, are specialised activities requiring a higher level of competence than similar activities on normal industrial plants and equipment. Under DSEAR, explosive atmospheres are regarded as dangerous materials.

Its purpose is to specify the basic requirements for unit 'F' covering the Foundation training of those working in 'Dangerous' areas. It also covers the training requirements of people having responsibility for those working in 'Dangerous' areas or having responsibility for determining the procedures governing people working in 'Dangerous' areas. It forms a part of the national COMP'Ex' scheme, which when undertaken and satisfactorily completed, will demonstrate a measurable level of competence.

Such training will provide companies with a target for their employees, which is recognised by the self-regulated sector of this industry as a necessary component of their Quality Management System. For this reason, it is considered that assessment of the knowledge imparted by the training will be an essential part of any programme.

Unlike the other CompEx units, no prior knowledge of the requirements of safe use of 'Dangerous' materials or flammable atmospheres is required for full participation in this unit.
